Horizontal LISTS

Use a semicolon to separate items and the word "and" at the last item, as in the example below.

Factors behind the expected growth are 1) limited downside; 2) an ongoing consumption recovery; and 3) moderate earnings growth prospects for 2H22 and 2023.

No colon is placed after the word that comes before a list, as in the example below.

We expect lower earnings due to 1) limited downside; 2) etc.

The Parallel rule

Items in a list must be the same tense. No. 3 in the list below, "seeking," does not follow the parallel rule because the tense is not the same as the infinitive tense that is used in No. 1 and No. 2, which are "to strengthen" and "to enhance."

Example: The company's key plans in the next three years are 1) to strengthen the efficiency of its existing businesses and branches; 2) to enhance synergy within the group; and 3) seeking more opportunities in the region.
